When You're Gone

For some reason, this music video makes me tear up whenever I watch it.

I also felt quite sad when I watched the music video for this year's National Day song 'Sing a Song for Singapore'. I just can't visualise something like that in reality.. because the people around me are only able to show me the corrupted nature of humankind. It's hard to imagine Singaporeans displaying such kind attitudes anymore.

What shall I do if it happens that one day the (relatively good) Singapore we know collapses? It's not hard to imagine. The youth of this day are uninterested with the present government - nor do they have the work ethic that built this city. It is both often said that Singapore has a vulnerable economy and a delicate social fabric, but few people actually care about those. Demographically too; we're headed for disaster in more ways than I can bother to elaborate now. The traditional concepts that provide a place for love and honour in any relationship and interaction are eroding quickly. Maybe open revolt against all that is true godliness will not occur in this generation, but we can never know. I suppose that in the end, I can't fully love this nation once I see all those things that are degrading.
